Compass Records – a great American label that has some really fine artists

Cooking Vinyl – home of the Oysterband and without doubt one of the most interesting labels there is – lots of my own favourite albums have come out on this label.

Fellside – Fellside was established in 1976 and has grown to be one of the UK’s leading independent, specialist record companies and is run solely by its founders, Paul & Linda Adams.

Folk Police  – a cutting edge Indie label that has really interesting new acts like Sproatly Smith and Harp And A Monkey. Manchester based.

Musical Traditions  – A great source of real traditional music – like Veteran and Topic this is where you need to go for the source material.

Navigator Records – a blockbuster label that has in its stable such new luminaries as Heidi Talbot, The Young ‘Uns, Faustus and Kris Drever.

No Masters – A great independant label, a co-operative set up ny John Tams and Coope, Boyes and Simpson. Recordings from the above plus Chumbawumba, O’ Hooley and Tidow and other great artists.

Proper Records – a major hitter in the folk / roots world Proper has a huge catalogue of great artists.

Red House Records – American roots from Old Timey to Newgrass with lots of great singer songwriter stuff thrown in. A great American label.

Signature Sounds – Cutting edge American roots music – a terrific catalogue of great music including Caroline Herring and Chris Smither.

Stockfisch Records – specialists in acoustic music, based in Germany.

Temple Records – Probably one of the best traditional Scottish labels there is.

Topic Records – the premier English record label. They have been around longer than anybody and have produced some of the finest recordings ever. They are now digitisng their back catalogue and offering it for download. A benchmark record company that others aspire to.

Veteran – a labour of love has turned into a great little label covering traditional music across theses islands. John Howson and his team run a great little label.

W

 

Wildgoose Records – WildGoose specialises in traditional folk music, particularly that of England. Doug Bailey, who founded the label and studio in the 1980s, has been involved in English music for over 30 years as a performer, a producer and an engineer.
